Though I don't agree with all he has to say, I'd certainly welcome releasing more of the petro reserves and the push (more and larger government subsidies) for alternate fuels.
In general, I think that subsidies for energy production are a very bad idea. For instance, until recently, oil industry subsidies artificially depressed the cost of oil and made air and solar energy production non-viable.
Just even the playing field and let the best (lowest cost) form of energy win.
Right, but I don't think that you can level the playing field without alternate energy subsidies. Oil has a huge, entrenched advantage and I just want to knock it off it's perch as rapidly as possible. Besides, it's really common and successful to subsidize new technology and I think the same strategy can be employed towards alternate forms of energy.
